Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Chef Manager to lead the culinary operations of a reputable aged care facility in Hobart. The role requires a strong balance of leadership, menu planning, nutritional awareness, and operational management. The Chef Manager will ensure residents receive nutritious, appealing, and well-balanced meals tailored to their dietary needs, while also maintaining food safety and kitchen efficiency.
Job Responsibilities
Oversee all kitchen operations including meal planning, preparation, and timely service
Create rotating menus that meet dietary requirements for aged care residents in consultation with dietitians
Ensure food safety compliance in line with HACCP and aged care standards
Train, supervise, and schedule kitchen staff effectively
Manage kitchen budgets, inventory, ordering, and waste control
Monitor portion control, food presentation, and quality at all times
Ensure compliance with health, hygiene, and sanitation protocols
Build positive rapport with residents and nursing staff regarding meal satisfaction
Conduct regular audits and support continuous improvement initiatives
Job Requirements
Proven experience in a head chef or kitchen management role, preferably in aged care or institutional settings
Strong understanding of nutritional requirements for elderly individuals
Excellent knowledge of food safety standards and allergen management
Leadership skills to manage and mentor a team with professionalism
Financial acumen for budgeting, stock control, and cost management
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification required
Understanding of the Aged Care Quality Standards is an added advantage
Salary and Benefits
Annual salary ranges from AUD 80000 to 90000 depending on experience and qualifications
