
Tandoor Chef – Indian Restaurant – Dunedin
Location: Dunedin, New Zealand
Experience Required: Minimum 3 years in authentic Indian kitchens, preferably in standalone or fine-dine Indian restaurants.
Cuisine Focus: Traditional North Indian cuisine with specialization in Tandoor dishes such as kebabs, tikkas, and Indian breads (naan, roti, kulcha).
Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Tandoor Chef for a well-established Indian restaurant located in the heart of Dunedin. The candidate will be responsible for managing the tandoor section independently, ensuring authenticity, consistency, and adherence to food safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and cook all tandoor-based items including meats, seafood, vegetables, and Indian breads.
- Maintain the tandoor oven at the appropriate temperature throughout service.
- Marinate meats and other ingredients according to traditional North Indian recipes.
- Ensure consistency in taste, texture, and presentation.
- Maintain hygiene and sanitation as per New Zealand FCP standards.
- Coordinate with the Head Chef and Kitchen Team for smooth operations.
- Monitor stock levels and communicate needs for ingredients or equipment.
- Innovate and contribute to menu development when required.
Salary Range: NZD 55,000 – NZD 60,000 per annum
Work Hours: 40–45 hours per week, full-time, roster-based shifts including weekends.
IELTS Requirements:

- Overall Band: 5.5
- No band less than: 5.0 in Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening
Note: Candidates with equivalent scores in TOEFL, PTE Academic, or other NZ-recognized English tests may also apply. However, IELTS is strongly preferred.
