Job Overview:

A vibrant and busy casual dining restaurant in Auckland CBD is hiring a dedicated Commis Chef to join its culinary team. The ideal candidate will have 1–2 years of experience and a passion for cooking across multiple cuisines. This is an excellent opportunity for a young chef looking to build a career in an internationally reputed kitchen while gaining exposure to diverse flavors and fast-paced service environments.

You will support senior chefs in preparation, hygiene maintenance, and consistent delivery of high-quality food.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in basic food preparation across various kitchen sections (grill, salad, sauce, fryer, etc.)
  • Support Chef de Partie (CDP) and Sous Chef in daily operations
  • Follow recipes and portion guidelines as per the menu specifications
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and food hygiene
  • Store ingredients properly and monitor freshness and stock rotation
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
  • Help with mise en place for lunch and dinner service
  • Receive and organize deliveries
  • Maintain a clean workstation at all times
  • Adhere to kitchen rules, SOPs, and food safety regulations (HACCP)

Candidate Requirements:

  • 1–2 years of relevant experience in casual dining, hotel, or cloud kitchen environments
  • Basic culinary skills with eagerness to learn and grow
  • Understanding of food hygiene, prep standards, and kitchen protocols
  • Team player with a positive attitude and adaptability
  • Willingness to work in shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Culinary certificate or diploma is preferred but not mandatory
  • Exposure to Multicuisine (Indian, Italian, Asian, Continental, etc.) is a plus
  • Punctual, reliable, and able to follow instructions

Salary & Benefits:

  • Salary: NZD 45,000 – 50,000 per annum
