Job Description
A vibrant and fast-paced Asian fusion restaurant in Canberra is seeking a talented Junior Sous Chef to join their culinary team. This position offers an excellent opportunity for an ambitious chef to build leadership skills while working closely with the Head Chef and Sous Chef. The role involves assisting in daily kitchen operations, managing service flow, and participating in menu research and development.
Job Responsibilities
Support the Sous Chef and Head Chef in managing kitchen operations during service
Supervise and guide junior staff to ensure efficient food preparation and quality control
Assist in new dish trials, flavor balancing, and innovation in fusion-style offerings
Monitor kitchen hygiene, food safety, and equipment maintenance
Contribute to stock management and assist in inventory checks and ordering
Ensure smooth service during peak hours with consistency in plating and timing
Train and motivate team members, helping to maintain a high standard of team morale
Collaborate with front-of-house teams for smooth communication and service delivery
Job Requirements
Minimum three years of culinary experience, with strong familiarity in Asian or fusion kitchens
Understanding of key ingredients and cooking techniques from Thai, Vietnamese, and Japanese cuisines
Creative mindset and passion for modern culinary trends
Good organizational and multitasking skills in high-pressure environments
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Diploma or Certificate III/IV in Commercial Cookery or international equivalent
Strong understanding of food hygiene and HACCP principles
Salary and Benefits
Annual salary ranges from AUD 65000 to 78000 based on skills and experience
